The Cabeza is located in the heart of the South Texas Brush country, beginning approximately four miles NE of Freer and extending north about eight miles. It is located about 90 miles south of San Antonio, 55 miles west of Corpus Christi, and is nearby Baffin Bay, widely known for the excellent fishing.The north boundary of the ranch is only 3.5 miles south of the Duval-McMullen County line. Duval County is well known for its long growing season, high protein content of its native brush, strong native grasses, and its outstanding whitetail deer genetics. The picturesque terrain, outstanding brush diversity, unique rock bluffs, and deep, fertile creek beds on the Cabeza combine the best of wildlife habitat with the romance and unspoiled scenic beauty of the South Texas brush country. The Tarancahuas Creek traverses the southern part of the ranch and San Jose Creek and its tributaries cross the northern part of the ranch. These creek beds run water during seasonal rains and contain water holes that retain water for extensive periods. Drinking water for the main headquarters is provided by a 20 GPM water well known as the "alto well" which transports water via a 2" buried PVC pipeline to concrete waterings as well as to the headquarters compound which is equipped with a reverse osmosis water purification system. Creek beds are lined with large mesquite, huisache, and some blackberry trees. The native brush habitat on the ranch varies from rolling guajillo-covered hills, to deep creek beds vegetated with bull mesquite trees, to vast plains with blackbrush, guayacan, chapote, colima, granjeno, quajillo, whitebrush, coma, prickly pear, cenizo, and other species of highly desirable native brush. The ranch has been well managed for many years, resulting in an excellent turf cover of native grasses. With 13 water wells, water is available in every pasture of the ranch. Average depth is estimated at 400-500 feet. Additionally, there are several stock tanks and a unique dove pond constructed in a caliche pit as well as seasonal wildlife water holes scattered along many miles of creek beds.
