South Texas ranch history

South Texas is a land where human artifacts date back 11,000 years and American ranching began. South Texas property was originally the roaming ground for native tribes such as the Karankawas, the Coahuiltecan, and the Comanche. Spanish land grants that date back to the mid 1700s covered much of the land in this area. One hundred years later, the cattle industry in the United States was developed at the King Ranch, which originally covered more than a million acres. The only two new breeds of cattle developed in the U.S. were started at this ranch.

South Texas hunting and cattle ranches

As you head to South Texas, you encounter some of the best ranch land in the state. Some areas, such as La Salle County have gently rolling real estate sandwiched between the Frio and Nueces Rivers. Or try historic Duval County where Mexican "vaqueros" (the predecessor to the cowboys) worked the cattle that still thrive on these South Texas ranches. Or find ranch land in Jim Wells County where artifacts from pre-history are found and the native brush encourages the abundance of wild game, including deer, javelina, coyote, bobcat, and quail.

We have properties for sale throughout this area between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. The sub-tropical climate, coupled with the huge stretches of plains leading to the Rio Grande Valley, creates acreage that is ideal for cattle and hunting.
